Governor Youngkin recently signed a Bill which changes the Virginia lien law, effective July 1, 2023.
The amended law now allows for the towing of watercraft only. Note, this does not permit towing of other types of vehicles or trailers. The Occupant must be in Default for more than Sixty (60) days and you are required to send notice to your Occupant at least Ten (10) days in advance containing information about the towing company that you will be using. As always, please consult with your legal counsel to discuss changes to your Default Notice and Rental Agreement or vehicle storage addendum prior to July 1, 2023 so that your documents are ready.
