Governor Landry signed a Bill modifying the Louisiana Self Storage Act, which goes into effect August 1, 2026.
This makes several definitional changes, including adding a definition of Default; recognizing the Agreement may be executed and delivered electronically; updating the last known address definition, and changing the method by which your Notice of Privilege is given, as well as, a Default Notice is provided to the Occupant. Most largely, however, the Statute changes creates two new non-monetary termination rights.
You should review these changes with your local self storage counsel to make sure you are in compliance and understand all the changes and nuances to these changes on or before August 1, 2026.
Congratulations to both the National Self Storage Association and the Louisiana Self Storage Association for working diligently to bring such an important change to your state.
